FINANCIAL PLANNING STANDARDS BOARD ELECTS BARRY HORNER, CFP,
TO ITS 2012 BOARD OF DIRECTORS -- UK-Based Horner Brings Financial Planning, International Business Experience --
DENVER, CO – 7 November 2011 – Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB), owner of the CFP, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and CFP Logo trademarks outside the United States, elected Barry D. Horner, CFP, CEO of UK-based Paradigm Norton Financial Planning Limited, to a four-year term on FPSB’s Board of Directors, starting 1 April 2012.
Horner, immediate past president of the UK's Institute of Financial Planning, founded Paradigm Norton in 2001, and transitioned the firm from commission-based payments to a “fee for service” model. Paradigm Norton has won numerous awards, and was the only UK firm to win Citywire's prestigious New Model Adviser award for five out of the last six years.
“Barry Horner’s experience operating a financial planning firm with multi-national ownership, coupled with his nonprofit governance experience with the IFP, gives him a unique perspective that reflects the best in financial planning professionalism,” said Corinna Dieters, 2011 Chairperson of FPSB’s Board of Directors. “Barry has been an active member of the FPSB Council in the past, and we look forward to his perspectives and contributions as a director of FPSB to our global strategy work.”
Horner, who has also worked in accounting and auditing in his career, says he is passionate about financial planning. “I believe in financial planning and the power that good financial planning has to make a profound difference in people’s lives. I decided to switch from the accounting profession to financial planning because I could see that people need much more help and guidance in planning their futures than they did accounting for their pasts. I am pleased to bring my enthusiasm and experience to help FPSB gain recognition for financial planning as a distinct, global profession,” he added.
Horner holds a BA (Hons) in Accountancy and Business Studies from Sheffield Hallam University, and received his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification in 1983. He joins FPSB’s 11-person Board of Directors, with members from Australia, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, UK and US. Horner’s term on the FPSB Board of Directors ends on 31 March 2016.
