Launched officially in December 2004, Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB) is the global, professional standards-setting organization for the financial planning profession and owner of the CFP, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and CFP mark  (CFP marks) outside the United States. FPSB is a nonprofit association that manages, develops and operates certification, education and related programs for financial planning organizations so they may benefit the global community by establishing, upholding and promoting worldwide professional standards in financial planning. FPSB’s vision is to establish financial planning as a distinct global profession, with the CFP Marks its symbol of excellence.

Working through its member organizations, FPSB creates internationally relevant, professional standards for financial planning practitioners, so:

  • The public can identify qualified financial planners;
  • Practitioners can distinguish themselves as trusted financial planning professionals; and
  • Consumers and regulators can have confidence in the financial planning profession and recognize the benefits that financial planning offers.
  • An international board of directors governs FPSB. The Board consists of up to 12  voting directors, plus FPSB’s chief executive officer, Noel Maye, who is a non-voting director. The FPSB Council, an advisory group representing 26 member organizations that administer, or are preparing to administer, CFP certification programs in their respective territories around the world, supports FPSB’s Board of Directors.
