Overview

Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) manages, develops and operates certification, education and related programs for financial planning organizations to benefit the global community by establishing, upholding and promoting worldwide professional standards in financial planning. FPSB demonstrates its commitment to excellence with the marks of professional distinction – CFP, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and CFP mark mark – which it owns outside the United States.

By the Numbers

  • In 2015, FPSB the number of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professionals reached a global high of 161,821 at year-end 2015.
  • Global growth within the FPSB network, representing 26 nonprofit financial planning standards-setting, certification and professional bodies in as many territories, produced a net increase of 4,235 CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professionals, a 2.7 percent increase over the previous year-end total of 157,586.
  • FPSB is a US 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization. FPSB’s Members are nonprofit or nonprofit-equivalent organizations that offer, or are preparing to offer, CFP certification within their countries or territories. As of the end of 2015, FPSB had member organizations in 26 countries and territories around the world, including: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Rep. of Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States.

Leadership

FPSB’s Board of Directors consists of up to 12 voting directors and FPSB’s CEO, who is a non-voting director. One representative from each FPSB member organization offering CFP certification sits as a voting member of the FPSB Council, a global body that provides support and counsel to FPSB’s Board of Directors. Organizations that are preparing to offer CFP certification do not have voting privileges.
