Financial Planning Standards Board Adds Middle East-Based Global Accounting, Education Leader to its Governing Body

DENVER – 20 FEBRUARY 2018 – Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB), owner of the international CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification program outside the U.S., named Garry Muriwai, founding chairman of the Global Accounting Alliance and former director of the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance, to its Board of Directors, with a four-year term, starting 1 April 2018.

“Garry’s global governance experience with an allied profession, and oversight role in delivering international education and training programs, will be a valuable addition as the FPSB Board guides the organization’s strategy for the next several years,” said Pamela Packard, FPSB Board Chairperson. “As FPSB focuses on creating multiple qualifications and pathways to CFP certification to reach our goal of 250,000 CFP professionals in 40 territories by 2025, Garry’s insights and skills will prove a welcome complement to those of our existing Board members.”

“I have a passion for both learning and business, and am especially energized by our continuously changing business landscape,” said Muriwai. “As an FPSB Board member, I intend to leverage my international experience in financial services to support FPSB’s growth and relevance around the world.”

Before becoming a financial services consultant, Muriwai served as the Director of the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance. A Chartered Accountant, Muriwai has also served as the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and was the founding chairman of the Global Accounting Alliance, a network of leading professional accountancy bodies that represent over 1,000,000 accountants globally. Prior, he served as the Chairman of New Zealand’s Maori Television Service.

Muriwai will join seven other volunteers on the FPSB Board of Directors from Australia, Brazil, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. More information about the FPSB Board of Directors can be found at https://www.fpsb.org/about/board-of-directors/.
