Financial Planning Standards Board Names Leaders From Australia, Mexico and South Africa to Board of Directors

NEW YORK – 25 MARCH 2021 ­­– Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB), the standards-setting body for the global financial planning profession and owner of the international Certified Financial Planner certification program outside the United States, named financial services industry leaders from Australia, Mexico and South Africa to its Board of Directors, effective next Thursday, 1 April. Each will serve a three-year term.

“Our new directors bring broad experience and insight into the challenges and opportunities facing FPSB as we establish the financial planning profession in emerging, developing and mature markets,” said Garry Muriwai, FPSB Board chairperson-elect. “Darren, Kaja and Sankie will complement and add to the skills on the FPSB Board, broadening our capabilities and perspectives in the areas of advocacy and standards setting, global firm operations, and developing financial planning programs in growth and emerging markets.”

Darren McShane, an experienced public policy professional from Australia, is a consultant who works with financial services regulators and industry participants on issues such as disclosure, pension system design, investment regulation, risk and compliance. He has an extensive work history with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) in Hong Kong, as well as with the International Organization of Pension Supervisors (IOPs) based in France. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Queensland and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Sydney.

Dr. Kaja Kroll, is the Head Wealth Management & Private Clients of HSBC Mexico, and has held leadership positions at BNP Paribas PF Mexico and DaimlerChrysler Financial Services. With experience in organizational development, business strategy, customer service and operations management, Kroll received a master coach designation from Spain’s International School of Coaching in 2009. In addition to her doctorate, which she received from the University of Phoenix, Kroll holds an MBA degree from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico and the Thunderbird School of Global Management, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Berufsakademie Berlin in Germany.

Adv. Sankie Morata, CFP®, is the chief executive officer of Sanlam Fiduciary Services in Cape Town, South Africa. He has held leadership positions at Nedbank and BOE Fiduciary Services, where among others he specialized in estate planning, compliance, risk management, public policy, legislation and regulation, client relationships, and audit management. Morata served as chairperson of the board of directors of the Financial Planning Institute (FPI) of Southern Africa from 2014 to 2017, and as chairperson of FPSB’s Launching and Developing Markets Forum from 2014 to 2016. A Certified Financial Planner professional, Morata also holds Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees from the University of the Free State, a post-graduate diploma in financial planning from Stellenbosch University, a post-graduate diploma in compliance management from the University of Johannesburg, a certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand in managing business turnaround and corporate renewal, and Advanced Leadership in Design Thinking from the University of Cape Town.

McShane, Kroll and Morata join volunteers from Brazil, The Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States on the FPSB Board of Directors.

As part of FPSB’s commitment to promote and grow the financial planning profession and CFP certification program globally, this year, FPSB and the FPSB Network will focus on: conducting global research to identify best practices and future proof the financial planning profession; developing and supporting career paths to financial planning professionalism and CFP certification; and increasing public awareness of the value of financial planning and working with a CFP professional.
