World Financial Planning Day Returns To Celebrate the Value of Financial Planning

FPSB to host its seventh annual World Financial Planning Day to coincide with International Organization of Securities Commissions World Investor Week

DENVER, COLO – 9 August 2023 – With many parts of the world experiencing economic strain and rising costs of living, Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB) and its global network of organizations will host its seventh annual World Financial Planning Day (WFPD) on 4 October 2023 to coincide with the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) World Investor Week (WIW) from 2 to 8 October 2023.

World Financial Planning Day raises awareness of the value of financial planning and of working with a financial planner who has committed to rigorous standards of competency, ethics and practice, like a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional.

“Money can be a source of stress as many endure global economic uncertainty and are increasingly called upon to become more responsible for their finances in an ever-changing, complex world,” said FPSB CEO Dante De Gori, CFP. “The good news is financial planning can help. To that end, we’re pleased to host our seventh annual World Financial Planning Day, alongside IOSCO’s World Investor Week and in partnership with our network of organizations and global CFP professional community, to show people around the world the wide-ranging benefits of financial planning and the impact it can make in all areas of our lives.”

To kick off this year’s World Financial Planning Day, the following activities will take place:

  • Release of research findings showing the benefits of financial planning and the value of working with a CFP professional from a global consumer study commissioned by FPSB and conducted by independent research firm MYMAVINS.
  • A virtual discussion on the topic of crypto investing with IOSCO Secretary General Martin Moloney and FPSB CEO Dante De Gori, CFP.
  • A series of programs and events hosted by FPSB’s global network of organizations leading up to and on WFPD to help individuals and families improve their levels of financial literacy and capability and their overall financial well-being.

FPSB is a long-time supporter of IOSCO’s World Investor Week, which includes the hosting of World Financial Planning Day on the Wednesday of WIW. Together, with international regulatory organizations, FPSB is raising awareness about the importance of financial education and investor protection so individuals and families can achieve life goals.

FPSB’s collaboration with IOSCO demonstrates the role the global financial planning profession plays in supporting regulators to ensure better financial outcomes for people all over the world.

“Retail investors should be empowered to make investment decisions that are aligned with their needs and preferences. The IOSCO World Investor Week campaign serves this noble aim by promoting the importance of investor education and protection,” said chair of IOSCO’s Committee on Retail Investors, Pasquale Munafò. “Financial planning is one of the best ways to improve retail investor resilience and financial well-being, fitting perfectly with the key messages of the WIW campaign. To that end, we are honored to continue our fruitful collaboration with FPSB and host World Financial Planning Day in the WIW calendar.”

“Many people are seeking financial education, understanding, guidance and support. World Financial Planning Day provides a wonderful opportunity to help people gain a better understanding and awareness of how financial planning advice from a CFP professional can help them make positive steps to achieve their financial goals,” added De Gori.
